Summary

And Then There Were None meets I Know What You Did Last Summer in #1 international bestseller Darby Kane's latest gripping and twisty thriller set on a private island in Maine where secrets piled upon secrets and lies upon lies are all revealed in one fateful weekend。 Emily Hunt went missing from her affluent liberal arts school on graduation weekend。 Her body was found floating in a river, and a quiet loner who most people on campus really didn't know committed suicide。 A tenuous link--one text--bound the two dead students together and was enough for law enforcement to close the case。 But they got it wrong and now someone is determined to set it right。 Twelve years later, college friends gather to celebrate an engagement over a long overdue getaway on a swanky private island in Maine--with only one way in and one way out。 Sierra Prescott, invited as a guest and unconnected to past events, is the only person who soon senses not all is what it seems。 The tension in the air is ignited when they find a dead man in the trunk of a car with a time to tell the truth。 And things only get worse。 As a torrential storm strands them together, the group's buried stories begin to surface and secrets are bartered。 To survive this deadly party, they'll need to stop a killer before they become prey。

This is the story of old college friends reuniting to celebrate the engagement of one in the group。 They meet at a remote island in Maine。 The first 2/3's of the book was fantastic, albeit a bit confusing because of many characters。 The last 1/3 was a hard read because there were too many twists with too much action。 It got exhausting。 I found the writing good, though at times it was convoluted。 None of the characters were likable, especially Ruthie and Sierra。 They were supposed to be the likab This is the story of old college friends reuniting to celebrate the engagement of one in the group。 They meet at a remote island in Maine。 The first 2/3's of the book was fantastic, albeit a bit confusing because of many characters。 The last 1/3 was a hard read because there were too many twists with too much action。 It got exhausting。 I found the writing good, though at times it was convoluted。 None of the characters were likable, especially Ruthie and Sierra。 They were supposed to be the likable characters, I couldn't get past their attitude and judgement。 。。。more

This definitely kept me on my toes with all of the different POVs and the mysterious pasts (as well as the journal entries - which were my favorite parts)。 This reminded me so much of And Then There Were None and I Know What You Did Last Summer and it was an engrossing read。 It got a bit convoluted & the characters were a bit whiny, which became frustrating at times, and I did question the motives of some characters which left me feeling a little unsatisfied。 Lastly, some revelations were painfu This definitely kept me on my toes with all of the different POVs and the mysterious pasts (as well as the journal entries - which were my favorite parts)。 This reminded me so much of And Then There Were None and I Know What You Did Last Summer and it was an engrossing read。 It got a bit convoluted & the characters were a bit whiny, which became frustrating at times, and I did question the motives of some characters which left me feeling a little unsatisfied。 Lastly, some revelations were painfully obvious, but I still thought this was fun and the final twist got me good! 🤯 This was a great popcorn/locked room thriller that I enjoyed reading。 Read this if you like books with suspicious characters full of secrets with alternating POVs + a dash of murder。 If you’re a fan of Shari Lapena and Lucy Foley, this will be a hit for you! 。。。more

While some things were predictable, I didn’t have this one all figured out! Thanks netgalley and William Morrow for the ARC! You can read this one now as it was published on December 5th! 。。。more

A solid 3。5 stars。 I like the premise of the novel of having a group of friends come together after 12 years where their past still haunts them。 However, some of the characters were extremely unlikable。 The twist at the end was interesting。 I feel like there was almost too much suspense in this book, and it felt like it could have been a lot shorter。

Wow! I loved this locked room thriller! Darby Kane has been an auto-buy author for me ever since I read Pretty Little Wife, but I have to say that this is her best book yet! I’ve read a lot of thrillers with a similar premise, but this one managed to feel completely unique。 It had a healthy dose of horror vibes which added a fear factor that I wasn’t expecting (but loved!)。 The suspense is intense from the beginning and doesn’t let up until the very end。 Definitely check this one out if you’re l Wow! An interesting, if overused, premise that failed miserably。 The characters in The Engagement Party reunite on an island to celebrate Will and Ruthie's engagement (who've only known each other for 6 weeks)。 Cassie, Alex, and Mitch have known each other since college when tragedy struck their group。 Sierra, Mitch's business partner, is his plus one。 The characters are very unlikable and indistinguishable from each other。 I didn't care about any of them really。 They do stupid, horror-movie type thi An interesting, if overused, premise that failed miserably。 The characters in The Engagement Party reunite on an island to celebrate Will and Ruthie's engagement (who've only known each other for 6 weeks)。 Cassie, Alex, and Mitch have known each other since college when tragedy struck their group。 Sierra, Mitch's business partner, is his plus one。 The characters are very unlikable and indistinguishable from each other。 I didn't care about any of them really。 They do stupid, horror-movie type things throughout the book (let's go out in the storm to "look around", let's go into the shed, etc。)The story was convoluted and so far-fetched。 。。。more

This book was very good! I debated giving it a 4 but felt like the plot line was very similiar to other murder mystery, “Agatha Christy-esque” books。 I really did enjoy the twists and turns, and the twists kept coming until the very end! Although I did figure out the mystery of Emily’s death early on, there were several plot twists that kept me guessing。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I thought it was a really suspenseful premise。 I love books that take place on a remote island with a killer on the loose! HOWEVER, at the beginning when a dead body is found in the trunk of a car and the group of friends decide NOT to notify the police (even though the police are RIGHT THERE on the island for a different reason and HAVING A CONVERSATION WITH THEM!) with a killer running around, I said, “I’m done!” and immediately returned the book to the library。 Silly, ridiculous, unrealistic。 I thought it was a really suspenseful premise。 I love books that take place on a remote island with a killer on the loose! All secrets eventually reveal themselves in due time。 Just as all lies will catch up with you。 "The Engagement Party" by Darby Kane is a prime example。 It took 12 years, but the secrets and lies are about to come to light。Of course, freaky weather, a secluded island, and an ominous feeling add to the ambiance of the plot。 This part feels so over done and played out, but I enjoyed the characters and the twists more than I disliked the setting。I think this is a great novel for someone looking for All secrets eventually reveal themselves in due time。 Just as all lies will catch up with you。 "The Engagement Party" by Darby Kane is a prime example。 It took 12 years, but the secrets and lies are about to come to light。Of course, freaky weather, a secluded island, and an ominous feeling add to the ambiance of the plot。 This part feels so over done and played out, but I enjoyed the characters and the twists more than I disliked the setting。I think this is a great novel for someone looking for a thriller that is familiar and yet brand new。 。。。more

You know it’s sad when adult characters act like teenagers, and continue to make bad decisions while stuck on an island with no way off, and dead bodies are turning up。 Yes, let’s run into the basement to hide! Yes, you go alone outside in the storm! Dumb and dumber would have looked smart up against this cast of characters。 Skip this one, and read Pretty Little Wife instead。

Easily forgettable。 Dull writing, and dry characters。 This book had no “let’s meet all the characters” scene, and I think it would be better if it did。 Bad things start happening as soon as they get on the island, and it makes it hard for the reader to care about any of it。 It’s a shame this book is marketing itself as AND THEN THERE WERE NONE meets I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, and that was the only reason I bought it。

I thought this was a twisty mystery, I appreciated the cold case aspect and bringing people together who were involved in the initial victim。 I understand that many people won’t like this one, but I had a good time with it。

Wow that was so bad。 I mean reading is subjective, but damn I didn’t like that book at all。 The writing was basic, the dialogue was super YA vibes, and the plot was ridiculous。 The ending was just a lot of “no this is actually what happened” over and over to the point where you don’t actually even care who the killer is or why they killed。 Dumb。 I wasn’t invested in the characters at all because there was such minor backstory on any of them。 It was all plot and very little else。 Not for me。
